Gilgamesh was a giant, part Anunaki (those who came from the sky to earth) who ruled the world.
The Anunnaki used to go around and impregnate all virgins to live their lineage as rulers of humanity. The only one Gilgamesh could not conquer was Enkidu, the hairy Wild Man living in the wilderness.
After luring Enkidu with temptress to enter the city, Gilgamesh fought him, but after wrestling for a long night none could overpower the other, so they became best friends.
Enkidu and Gilgamesh traveled over wide distances to fight giants and monsters and after a series if victories Enkidu was poisoned felt sick and died causing Gilgamesh to grieve bitterly.
In ancient Mesopotamia was a cult of enkiduism in which men covered themselves with animal pelts and went to live as hermits in the wilderness to fast and pay penance to their sins.
